We also carry a full line of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Al-Anon, and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) approved literature and anniversary medallions celebrating recovery.

Sunlight of the Spirit seeks to inspire, encourage, and celebrate those desiring to grow in recovery, in faith, and in spiritual connection with others. Our vision is that those who seek recovery from addiction or desire to grow spiritually will find the resources and support they need to live in the ‘sunlight of the spirit’.

Sunlight of the Spirit is committed to:

Support and encourage those seeking to free themselves from addiction and those with a loved one in recovery

Increase awareness of the connection between recovery and spiritual development

Encourage dialogue and understanding of the unity of the spirit within all faith traditions

Reinvest 75% of net profits to support local interfaith social justice efforts and services for those recovering from addiction.

Sunlight of the Spirit is owned and operated by Karen Dotson and Ed Connolly. Prior to their retirement from public service, both Karen and Ed worked in the education field helping  those with special needs gain access to quality educational opportunities and needed student support services. Sunlight of the Spirit represents Karen and Ed’s commitment to continue to grow spiritually in their own recovery and in fellowship with others. They are associates with the Sisters of Social Service and incorporate the Benedictine principles of balance, works of service, shared faith, hospitality, and ongoing spiritual development into their daily lives and the operation of Sunlight of the Spirit.

2nd Saturday Artist Reception with Doris Brown

November 8th 6-9pm

Artist Doris Brown paints to evoke a transcendent moment, an instant of bliss or love or comfort, of seeing beyond everyday reality. "I paint to remind myself (and others) to allow time for these moments, and to savor them. Most of my paintings begin without a plan--just playing with color.  After many layers, direction emerges.  The process is meditative with moments of joy as well as those of struggle when I forget to listen."

Summer Dance of the Fireflies Goes to Nepal

Children at a school in Kathmandu enjoying Ed Connolly's book, Summer Dance of the Fireflies. The books were recently given to several schools in Nepal by Red Hen Press representatives to support efforts to promote reading. The publishing representative reports that " the kids held on to the books like they were made of gold, the most precious things they have ever received."

My Favorite Midtown Haven

by Tony M., Friday 31 of October, 2008 (10:31:00)

I was drawn into Sunlight of the Spirit by the positive energy I sensed walking by. What a find! Every chance I get to come to Midtown I go to Sunlight for a boost of serenity. They always have soothing music playing, the best price and quality of Tibetan singing bowls, and I leave feeling as if I've been meditating for an hour. Thanks for being there and the service you provide in the community!!!!

Owners Give Back! :-)

by Terri E., Wednesday 21 of May, 2008 (08:32:15)

When I enter the store, I am immediately drawn to the beautiful merchandise so artistically displayed.  There is such a variety from which to choose such as artwork, jewelry, books, cards and more.  Each time I've visited the store I have found just the right gift for another plus a little extra for me!  Because I know that the owners give a large percentage of the profits to charity, I feel that I am actually giving back to the community when I spend my money there.  Sunlight of the Spirit has become one of my favorite shops to visit!

My Heart Opens in this shop

by Sally K., Monday 21 of April, 2008 (15:55:16)

Each time I walk into Sunlight of the Spirit, my heart opens to the possibilities that come with the hope of a new day.  The inventory is varied and meets every need.  The store itself feels like a big hug!  One must certainly take your time when looking around as there is much to see that evokes so many positive memories and emotions.  By the time I leave the store, I feel as though I have been somewhere far away from Sacramento.  I feel calm, cared for, and centered.  Sunlight of the Spirit has become one of my favorite stores.  Karen and Ed have always been two of my favorite people.  The store they have created is sacred and soulful.

I love Sunlight of the Spirit. I've been in the store 5 times and each time have been able to find the exact right gift I needed. The staff are pleasant and helpful and I always leaving with a calm spirit. This is the best place I've found for spiritual books and recovery items all in the same place. This if my new favorite store in Sacramento.

I was in the store for my first time yesterday, searching for a gift for a very ill friend, and a non-traditional wedding gift for another.  This is a jewel of a store with a wide selection to choose from.  I highly recommend it!
