Dragonfly Restaurant
What I Crave in SacramentoLimelight Bar, Café and Card Room
Shuffle-up and Deal, some of Sacramento's Best poker action! The "slimelight" review is very old. The Limelight is both a bar-pub and poker card room. On the bar-pub side there is cheap drinks and lots of great beer choices, served by a good bar staff, multiple Plasma TVs in the bar area, the same in the cafe, plus an out door patio with a plasma, all great for watching sports or just relaxing with a drink. The food is typical pub fare with low prices $6-$14 and very tasty. The bar on Fri or Sat. is both a locals and college groups hang out. All ages will feel comfortable. The card room is a tight space with 7 or 8 poker tables and 1 Neveda style blackjack table in the cafe. The ambiance feels like an old style cardroom (not like a brightly lit bingo parlorl) Open 24/7 the Limelight features poker tournaments twice a day, limit and no-limit holdem, lo-ball and the best No-Limit Texas Holdem action in Sacramento. The poker room is fairly well run, with fast seating, friendly staff, and the the lowest collection rate $3 in Sacramento (no Jackpot here). The only negative is the parking, there is almost no parking at the limelight. To park use the Safeway - Bank Parking across the street. The Limelight is NOT a dive, if you are a poker player this is a one card room you must check out. If you are looking for a beer or drink, and enjoy a friendly bar crowd this is worth the price of a beer.
Pros: Great food/drink, excellent poker action, friendly staff
Cons: parking, crowded card room
DAD'S Sandwich Shop
Dad'sBy Aaris A. Schroeder
Located on the outskirts of Midtown on S and 13th, Dad’s Sandwich Shop serves not only a large variety of sandwiches but also crisp salads, daily-made soups, bakery goods and a diverse selection of farmer’s market fruits and vegetables. For beverages, you can pop a beer open, select a specialty coffee from Old Soul or one of your favorite sodas or juices.
Once adorned with graffiti art, this hole-in-the-wall is now a local favorite and if you stop by you will see locals out front enjoying a fresh brew and hearty sandwich. The staff at Dad’s is quite inviting. Made up mostly of owners Zac and Alison, who are husband and wife and Zac’s father, Sam, [you can call him ‘Dad’]. The three came up with the idea in ’03 and cleaned up the property and began business in ’04.
My favorite sandwich is the “Day After” sandwich, properly named for those long-nights of bar-hopping or attending music functions with brew in hand. Waking up at noon and traveling down to Dad’s for this specialty turkey sandwich on organic wheat bread with spicy brown mustard and mayo, cream cheese, dried cranberries, red onion, tomato and lettuce is sure to get that hangover relief so you can get a move on your day.
There is a unique sandwich at Dad’s for everyone so come on down for lunch this week and discover why the locals call this place, “Dad’s.”
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op
CommentI love the co-op! The freshest veggies in town, the best meat/fish counter, and a fabulous deli if you don't feel like cooking. You can find pretty much everything you need here and you know you're doing a good thing for the environment and yourself. And it's no more expensive than going to Safeway or some other gross chain market. The best place to shop in Sac!
