Red Tent
Description
See pictures of Mission Red Tent is a space linked to the concept that women's health depends on thoughtful community supported activities, celebrations, and rituals as processes of prevention, healing, and rejuvenation. Our space is the foundation for an open dialogue about the natural cycles of a woman's life, from puberty and menstruation, to sexuality, motherhood, and menopause. We hope to bridge the gap between the competitive edge of a patriarchal society and the natural cycles of our lives that crave existence in a healthful, spiritualized context. As a loving community, we can reshape common misperceptions of body image, ability, and over-all personal value. So much fun I didn't know I was getting a workout
I have taken dance for over twenty years on and off but was a complete beginner to belly dance when I started a year ago. Amy's teaching style was so warm and supportive. The culture of Red Tent is that of collaboration and fun, which is a great environment for a beginner or an experienced dancer. I am taking two classes a week now and I drive almost 30 minutes just to take classes with Red Tent because of the teachers and the other participants. Belly dancing is the highlight of my week-one of the few places I'm not thinking about work but just purely having fun and enjoying myself. Oh yeah...it's great exercise, too!
New moves for weary souls
I started taking dance lessons with Amylea in 2006. Her charismatic choreography and approachable teaching style led me to rediscover the rythym and soul that I had lost to the daily grind. Belly dancing proved to be a tremendous outlet for me and the warm and open nature of the classes made me feel a part of a culture, rather than paying for a class. This is not your factory model dance class with strict formulas and "must buy" gear. Its much more fun than that. Not to mention it helped me get my middle into shape!
