It's Hip to be Square.
Inspired by the majestic public square of the same name in Mexico City, Zocalo is more than just a jazzy title for a modern-yet-authentic Mexican eatery: It relates a contemporary extension of Mexico's proud heritage and distinct culture.

For hundreds of years, the zocaloan urban plaza similar to our own Capitol Mallhas been the center for political and social gathering in Mexico, the largest of which is in Mexico's capitol. As the nucleus of one the world's most populated cities, what happens in the Zocalo is a reflection of what is simply happening.

Imagine a plaza a mile-wide and a mile-long, flanked on one side by the national plaza and on another by the national cathedral & that's the zocalo. It is where the Pope delivers public addresses, where grandest parade routes end, and where countless millions have expressed themselves in everything from concerts to celebrations to protests.

Not Mexican. Mexico.
Virtually every aspect of your experience at Zocalothe exquisite artworks, the compelling furniture, the unique serviceware, and of course, the delectable cuisine
is an authentic, original, artifact of Mexico. Nothing has been duplicated or imitated. Instead, all was carefully and painstakingly collected and created in Mexico' then imported to create an experience unlike that of any other Mexican eatery.

Zocalo's incomparable collection of artworks are from Guadalajara's Ernesto Cruz, a world class architect/ sculpture/ poet/ artisan-deluxe. Cruz's one-of-a-kind talents grace our restaurant. After countless months of intense scrutiny over most every detail, Zocalo is now a primo casa for Cruz's indigenous crafts that simultaneously praise his origins and offer an irresistible seductiveness.

Nuevo Sacramento
History has a way of repeating itself, doesn't it? Consider our building. Designed by the legendary Leonard Stark (the same guy who created many of Sacramento's most beautiful schools, monuments, and buildings), the Arnold building has been faithfully restored to its original glory' then some.

Good food and reasonably priced

by sciv, Thursday 30 of October, 2008 (19:09:20)
I love Zocalo for a slightly upscale atmosphere and really good food. The waitstaff is very courteous, and the food isn't overly greasy or heavy. Great vegetarian dishes too, which is hard to find at a Mexican restaurant.

Great food, great patio, beautiful people

Zocalo has a few traits I really appreciate in a restaurant: great mexican food, ice cold beer glasses, mojitos, and people watching. Sometimes I am a little surprised at the restrained portions, but there is no denying the quality of the food, and they may have the best rice in town. Last time I had the skirt steak/portobello mushroom erector set; the steak was of obviously high grade,  and the pairing of grilled portobello mushrooms, poblano chilies, and tangy jack cheese was spot on.  It can get crazy there on big date nights and during their carnival celebrations, but the staff works hard and remains attentive. I give 4 out of 5.

Zocalo

Fun social atmosphere with the “Best” Mojito maker (Gil) in town operating in a friendly manner behind the bar, also teaching fellow Zocalo bartenders how to make his award-winning concoction. Since he’s so generous with his lucky charm, do you think he’d mind giving The Park a lesson or two in mojito making?

delicious! Furl this! digg this! stumbleupon this!
