Sampino’s Towne Foods
Description
The Best Italian Food Sampino's Towne Foods Presenting a true Italian deli and gourmet meat market, Sampino’s brings back a slice of the old life to the Midtown-Downtown core. On 16th and F Streets, inside the shopping strip, the Sampino family has revitalized the largest corner with the legend of a true Sacramento butcher, Bill Sampino. After running a Corti Brothers (15 years), managing the meat department for David Berkeley’s (17 years), helping Biba Caggiano to write her first two cookbooks, teaching at William Glen Culinary Academy, and consulting with the Davis Natural Foods Co-op, Bill, his son Michael, and his daughter-in-law Gabi, have struck out on their own to offer something new to the marketplace: Affordable Gourmet! From imported cheeses to any cut of meat, from Italian and regional olive oils to fresh produce, Sampino’s prides itself on every item being affordable fare. You will pay near restaurant prices for many of the highest quality items, such as dried porcini mushrooms and buffalo mozzarella, and each trip find something unique to bring home or to the office. After 9 years of providing fresh produce, cheeses, and “everything the chef needs” wholesale to the finest restaurants and markets in Sacramento, the Sampinos now make the same promise to the chef at home! If you’re driving down 16th Street (Highway 160) toward Arden from J Street, pull into the large parking lot at F Street to pick up lunch or an outstanding prepared meal for dinner. Where else will you find chicken parmagiana, chicken cordon bleu, homemade meatballs, 9 deli sandwiches, fresh steaks, roasts, whole chickens, lamb, pork, and fresh seafood on special order to cook at home tonight? On the dividing line between Midtown and Downtown in the heart of the Central City, we all have something to celebrate. In the spirit of Corti Brothers, David Berkeley’s, and Taylor’s Market, Sampino’s Towne Foods adds new possibilities to the Midtown-Downtown home gourmet. Now you can afford the same beginning quality ingredients that arrive at the tables of Biba’s, Michelangelo’s, La Trattoria Bohemia, and many more. Affordable Gourmet…Sampino’s means restaurant quality inside your home. Take something wonderful home tonight.

My Favorite Deli
I usually stop by to get either the meatball or Chicken Parmesan Sandwich but always end up getting much more. The Chicken Parmesan is great. One of my favorites is the Eggplant Parmesan and I always get at least 4 even if I'm only buying for two. The lasagna, crab cakes or enchiladas usually end up in my bag before I leave. I stopped making most of these items since Bill's sauces are so much better than anything I could come up with, why bother with the mess.
If you haven't tried Sanpino's you are really missing a good experience.
Sampino's - A Must Try
I have tried all of the sandwiches and loved them all. The meatball is my favorite! Everything is fresh and seasoned just right. They have an amazing variety for such a small shop - eggplant, enchiladas, lasagna, chicken, crab cakes (yummy!), fish, pork (try the rolled stuffed pork), soup, and on and on. Split pea soup was never my favorite until I tasted Bill's. This is also my favorite place in Sacramento for canoli. Their canoli has a creamy smooth filling, not gritty!
To top it all off, they are friendly and very helpful!!
