Over Seven Decades
of Excellence

SEE MENU BELOW

The tradition of fine cuisine at Espanol goes back all the way to 1923, at 114 Jay Street. In 1952 the building on Jay Street was sold and Espanol moved to Old Sacramento into a commercial hotel at 3rd and I Street. The restaurant continued its excellence and in 1959 was bought by Babe Luigiand his brother Mario.

They added an Italian flair and in 1965 the redevelopment in Old Sacramento caused the popular restaurant to relocate to it's present location. Today the restaturant continues to be run by the Luigi Family. Babe's three children, Perry, Paula and Karen are proud to serve you in Espanol's friendly atmosphere, which has kept customers happy for three generations.

Old World Charm

by Nancy Boyd, Friday 22 of August, 2008 [15:11:57]

We love to stop in to our old standby. You can always count on the heaping, helping of soup. And I always bring home goodies.

Good Old Food

by Debra, Tuesday 12 of August, 2008 [17:41:45]

This place has been around forever, my husband and I go about every 3 months. You get soup..the best minestrone you have ever had, salad, tea/coffee, ice cream with your meal. the food is good, filling, and Italian.  You will go home with a doggy bag everytime.  during the winter time when my husband gets a cold, I call in an order for soup and baguette of bread (foot long), it's really cheap, I go pick it up and make his day.  This is a very casual restaurant that has not been updated since the 70's, don't let that fool you, the service is good. The only negative thing I can say is the wine is over priced for the brands they serve and the size of the wine glass is quite small, but they do have a bar that servces hard liquor and my husband says they make a good strong drink . Other than that it worth your while to try this place once, great place to take the parents or grandparents if they have never been there.

Great Real Italian Food

Thank you for the good food as well as soup. Prices are so reasonable. Ample parking place.

keeping it real

by stella, Sunday 09 of December, 2007 [00:26:41]
This restaurant has been around for a really long time and is family run and operated. It's kind of old school - the decoration takes me back to another era....the people who work there have been around since the beginning....it's just that kind of a place.  But they have been around for so long because they are consistent. They make everything from scratch, everything I've had there was really delicious - nothing fancy but totally hit the spot. Just good, traditional Italian food. I love to people watch when I'm here. It's all the regulars from the neighborhood that have been coming  for decades. It's a really unique atmosphere in that good old fashioned way. A great place to take the whole family - everyone will be satisfied.
delicious! Furl this! digg this! stumbleupon this!
