Cornerstone Restaurant
Description
The Cornerstone Restaurants in Midtown Sacramento has been an eatery for as long as anyone can remember. Co-owner Joe Jang say when he and his partner, Danny Leung, bought the café in 1994, a very elderly customer told him she recalled visiting a coffee shop in the same building 50 years before. Not wanting to argue with success, the partners didn't change the down-home, relaxed atmosphere of the Cornerstone. Today, it is as informal and comfortable as it was decades ago - a familiar neighborhood haunt that claims "regulars" from far and wide. The idea was so appealing that Danny and Joe opened two more Cornerstones - one in Elk Grove and another in Citrus Heights. The Midtown location has, more than once, been named one of Sacramento's "best breakfasts" in citywide surveys. Open from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 365 days a year, there are few mornings when Cornerstone is not packed with families enjoying breakfast, chatting with neighbors and clustering around popular outdoor tables. Coffee steams from hefty mugs and servers shuttle hearty plates piled high with breakfast favorites. The philosophy behind this successful family-owned enterprise is simple, according to Joe. "We want to offer real value while serving great food in a comfortable and familiar setting. Cornerstones have a unique character that makes people feel at home. That's what we are aiming for." Joe and Danny also launched Nashiki Sushi in downtown Sacramento and, more recently, The Stonegrill and Bar in Midtown. |

Not bad
best breakfast
This place has the best breakfast and you will be full when you leave. No skimpy servings at this joint.
I'm hungry now just thinking about their potatoes and pancakes. This place is close to being called a "hole in the wall" , very casual, good service . The only down side is the wait, but it is well worth it! If you have never been and enjoy a good big breakfast, you have to try this place at least once, you won't be disappointed.
Yummy
There is a reason why people are lined up out the door on the weekends. Yes, the place is a bit of a dive, but the food more than makes up for any issues you may have with the decor. For the love of Pete, if you order anything with potatoes for breakfast, please be prepared to bring a shovel - the portions are huge! This place is just perfect after a late night of drinking in Midtown.
$4 Breakfast
Go for the Tuna Melt
It may not be gorgeous, but this greasy spoon is THE SPOT for a tuna melt. It's grilled brown and the tuna is fatteningly mayonaised to perfection. There is no better.
grub and for great prices. Your service is fast and efficient but I have not seen them smile much.
During the good weather months it is great to sit outside and people-watch while enjoying the midtown scene
walk by.
Cornerstone
Cornerstone Restaurant located on J and 23rd St. in Midtown has been a long-time hot spot for locals looking for something tasty to eat. The restaurant is quite casual as booths claim the walls and several tables are scattered around three dinning rooms.
Pick where you want to sit and a server will be right with you to take your order. When I ate at Cornerstone, I ordered ‘create-your-own’ omelet along with coffee and cranberry juice. The omelet came as a layered egg specialty filled with cheese and veggies, just as I had ordered it. Cornerstone is known for their potatoes which resemble scalloped potatoes that looked lightly pan-fried.
There was plenty of food and the prices weren’t too bad either – but you do have to pay up front. Don’t forget to walk back to your table to leave a tip. I left with a full stomach but not so sure if I should come back again to Cornerstone for breakfast. Maybe lunch?
