Hike For Discovery is a hiking and fundraising program for people who love to be in the great outdoors and want to help people battling cancer. As part of the training participants will receive: Professional training at your select level of difficulty. Clinics on hiking techniques, hydration safety, first aid and more. Training, travel and socialization with your group A personal web page for fundraising, and advice and support from a mentor Transportation, lodging and social events during your stay One year membership in the American Hiking Society. The hiking events are intended for anyone 16 years of age or older may join. Many people who participate in our program are beginners at hiking while others are more experienced. We'll let you choose the level of difficulty that works best for you and provide you with training from a Hike leader plus clinics on hiking techniques, nutrition, shoe selection, safety, first aid and more. Leukemia & Lymphoma Service (LLS) will provide 14-18 weeks of professional training and everything you'll need to make your hike fun and successful. You will train in honor of an Honored Patient, a local blood cancer patient whose struggle for survival will inspire and motivate you. LLS will also provide transportation to and from the event, lodging and social events during your stay. In return, you'll raise funds for lifesaving research and bring hope to hundreds of thousands of people battling blood cancers. LLS is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. LLS's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The funds help advance LLS's mission by funding leading-edge medical research, patient assistance programs, community outreach and education programs and advocacy for legislation addressing patient issues. The need is critical. More than 823,000 people are fighting these cancers. |
