Annual Autumn Equinox Celebration at the Soil Born Farm
Based out of two urban farms and local school sites, SBFUAP programming focuses on promoting health and providing experiential learning opportunities for youth, on producing healthy food, on improving food security for low-income residents, and on providing a model for land and environmental stewardship. SBFUAP, for many years, focused on producing healthy certified organic produce for local stores, restaurants, farmers markets, community supported agriculture (CSA) programs and for low-income residents. In March of 2004 Soil Born received non-profit status and has now expanded its community role to combine healthy food production with food education and food access projects in partnership with area agencies including the Sacramento Natural Food Co-op, Kaiser Permanente, Health Education Council, Mutual Assistance Network, United Way and The California Nutrition Network. Our food security program “Project FEED” and our food education program “Connecting Food Health Environment” are two unique work areas that we hope to expand and develop over time. We hope you will read about them on our site. The 2006 season also marks the beginning of the development of our second urban farm site and permanent home. The American River Farm is a 25 acre historic ranch located within the American River Parkway in Sacramento. This facility offers a chance to expand food production for low-income residents, as well as to provide a wonderfully diverse landscape for educating our youth and adults about the value of our natural world, good land stewardship and healthy food. We hope this web site gives you some insight to who we are and motivates you to join us on this journey for a healthier world. |
