Fins Market and Grill

the halibut on the sandwich was divine. soft, buttery and cooked to perfection. the fish was delicious. however, it came served on a walnut bread (my choice of the two options) that was not up to the task of holding in its tasty center. half way through the sandwich the bread started to sog and fall apart. my husband enjoyed his plate of fish and chips with great fervor and no complaints, but the fries were nothing special. just string fries. on the atmosphere, the service was attentive and friendly. overall, i would definitely return, but i know now that i am coming for the fish and not for the fanfare.

 

 

The food here left me hanging as did the atmosphere, but when it comes to fish mongers, there is no better in town. I have been shopping at the original Fin's on Madison for over 12 years, and frankly, they have been the ones to teach me a thing or two about fresh fish (despite having worked for a time at a fish market on the wharf in Santa Cruz). The restaurant is clean and the service friendly. If you stop by Safeway after work for some groceries, you might want to run across the street for a quick happy hour pint and some calamari steak and avoid the mad rush to get home.
