Edible Crawl for a Cure
, produced by midtowngrid.com, is a gourmet food and pub crawl through more than two dozen, primarily independent Downtown and Midtown microbreweries, wine bars, restaurants, and coffee houses. An anticipated 1,500 “crawlers” will participate in the Second Annual "Fun-Raiser" on October 18, 2008: Noon - 5:00 pm for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which funds research and care centers (including UC Davis and Sutter hospitals locally) to fight CF and care for the more than 30,000 in the US that have cystic fibrosis.  The goal is to raise awareness of this genetic disease of the lungs and digestive system that currently has no cure, to focus on bringing research dollars to the Sacramento chapter of CFF, and to enjoy an amazing walk across the Central City.  The event is the brainchild of midtowngrid.com and the Sacramento Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“Crawl Captains” will lead crews of 10 or more people on a gourmet and pub jaunt. Each location will pair food and drink with entertainment sprinkled along The Grid, greetings from the Sacred City Roller Derby Girls, and chalk art by Chalk It Up! to Sacramento.  Discount overnight stays will be available through the Clarion Mansion Inn.

Businesses, community organizations and groups of friends and family are encouraged to organize teams for the event and show their team spirit and increase their visibility by wearing t-shirts or similar identifying clothing to let people know of their participation and support of the CF Foundation.  As an added incentive, the leader of each group, or “Crawl Captain,” will be eligible to receive a complimentary admission ticket for recruiting at least 10 people to their team.

To sign up as a “Crawl Captain” complete the “Crawl Captain” Registration Form and fax or e-mail it to Darby Flynn at 916-349-1244 or dflynn@cff.org.

Customized sponsorships are available for this unique marketing opportunity.  For more information contact Darby Flynn at 916-349-1243 or dflynn@cff.org.

In 2007, the inaugural year of Edible Crawl for a Cure, over 700 people hit the streets of Midtown and Downtown exploring our river city (see pictures from last year's event here).

Sponsor Midtown Monthly’s Liv Moe, Editor, reflects, "The Edible Crawl for a Cure is a great event, which not only raises money for an outstanding cause, but also helps draw attention to local establishments within the community. I was told numerous times while manning a table at Zocalo that the occasion of the Crawl for a Cure was the first time many crawl participants had visited the restaurant, which was a phenomenon that I am sure went on all over town. In wandering around to a few crawl locales myself I was delighted to see crawl goers relaxing and reading the Midtown Monthly. In general I feel like this event is ideal in fostering a greater sense of community within Midtown by drawing attention to the best things this neighborhood has to offer while also raising awareness and necessary funds for Cystic Fibrosis."

“The Edible Crawl for a Cure is the first event of it’s kind in Sacramento to offer a gourmet walking and tasting tour of the central city to benefit charity.  We are striving to keep the ticket price reasonable so that people from all walks of life will be able to participate,” said Director of Special Events for the Sacramento Chapter of the CF Foundation, Darby Flynn.

Brian Fischer of midtowngrid.com, the Edible Crawl for a Cure event Chair, added, “we really want to show off the walkability of the Grid while exposing people to the culinary evolution of Midtown and Downtown Sacramento.  People should know that they don’t have to travel to San Francisco to experience a unique dining experience with great atmosphere and superior quality.”

Edible Crawl for a Cure was created by the CF Foundation and midtowngrid.com to raise funds to support research to control or find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF).

Participating establishments this year include:

  • Cafes: Butch N Nellie’s, Temple Fine Coffee & Tea, Bean Tree, Old Soul Co., Old Soul at Weatherstone, and Le Petit Paris
  • Restaurants: Tamaya Sushi and Grill, Stonegrill & Bar, Rubicon Brewing Co., Zocalo, 58 Degrees and Holding Company, L Wine Lounge and Urban Kitchen, Three Monkeys Restaurant, 4th Street Grille, Brew It Up!, Parlare Euro Lounge, Clarion Mansion Inn, and Bistro 33 Midtown
  • Other Establishments: Revolution Wines, Capital Cupcakes, and Yogurt a go-go.

Stay tuned to see additional participants for 2008!
