I was excited when I first heard about "Daphne Greek Cafe."I'm of the opinion that downtown is severely lacking when it comes to Mediterranean food.Specifically, the kind that a starving artist like myself can afford.I didn't even have a problem with the idea that Daphne's was really a fast food version of Greek cuisine. The thing that made it worthy, for me, was that they carried dolmas. Those little green bites of goodness, made of grape leaves and rice.
But then DISAPOINTMENT.A couple months back I returned to Daphne’s to find that they've stopped serving dolmas.Since then, I haven't returned to Daphne’s.They're half chicken and rice plate is good...but they're hummus is grainy (like it's made from a pre-made mix, as compared to ground from actual chickpeas).I even liked their french fries. But without the dolmas, it just isn't Greek to me.
It's all about the dolmas, baby.
