Discussing Great Issues: Difficult Economic Times, More Dialogue, and CapSity Blog Party
Hey there Gridsters,
It would be an understatement to say that there's a lot going on in our country and our city today. Sacramento faces a critical Mayoral election alongside the most important Presidential election of The Guru's lifetime. Our country fights wars on 2 fronts and our country faces the greatest economic crisis since The Great Depression.
Right here in Sacramento, we have watched some wonderful businesses close in the past few months and the rate has increased. Old Sacramento lost an average of 1 business per block (6 businesses in 6 blocks) and Midtown lost 6 businesses even as new ones open.
The Central City continues to be the brightest spot socially and economically for the Sacramento region. How we treat each other, even help one another in these coming months, will impact what we can be as a city and region for the next 5, 10, and 25 years. The Guru asks that each of us digs deeply to ponder the difficult issues of the day internationally, nationally, regionally, and locally.
Weigh in. What is the best way for Sacramento to increase dialogue meaningfully so that we not only survive these difficulties with grace but also grapple with plans to reform our city and region to prosper more sustainably as the economy improves?
If you have the skill set or the financial capacity to guide a small business during the short term, please reach out. At midtowngrid.com, we believe that Sacramento has something special in its small-town, big-city hybrid. Let's be generous, thoughtful, and constructively critical where helpful as we approach the elections and Holiday Season.
Side Note: If you are a blogger, please come network and increase your voice at the CapSity Blog Party next Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the CapSity Offices, a new Midtown small business incubator, on 24th and N Streets. this event will also fundraise for My Sister's House, a local charity. Some of the best things in our city are not obvious to the eye.
With great respect for this wondrous space,
The Grid Guru
