Crime Scenes by Brian Werle

In the early days of forensics, traditional crime scene photographers were most often the local portrait photographer, brought in by police. Old crime scene photos were, therefore, unintentionally bound by an artist's eye. Inspired by vintage aesthetics and stereotypical True Crime/Noir stories from the first half of the Twentieth Century, where every life ends in misery and the only remains are captured in bright whites, grainy mid-tones, and velvety blacks. Brian Werle uses his eye for the macabre to reinterpret crime scenes and create new arrangements, using the people and locations he knows so well. He has found photography to be a means for both capturing the real world and conceptualizing within it, reading the world through a Noir-coated lens.

Formed in the spring of 2007, (waning) has dedicated their music to exploring the half-awake dream spaces. Shadow people dance in the corners of your eyes, an invisible hand caresses your hair. A way to escape the drone of modern life and resort to another parallel hum, if only for a moment.

MAKE ART in our creative workshop using a variety of art materials rescued from being turned into trash. Lots of fun for children and adults alike.

The artist’s reception will be from 6 pm to 9pm, during our extended hours on the Second Saturday and there will be snacks and live music from Sacramento’s own musical talent, (waning). The event is FREE, friendly, and fun!
