Relationships with City Hall
I figured since our business mtg.s were upcoming I’d send out the whole mayor thing now .
( not asking for anything, just sharing & I will not play politics unless asked)
first off my ever changing website
I have position statements, schedules etc. on the site for your reading entertainment
I would like to share some things I have found interesting
I find it interesting that during hard economic times business folk are still worried about their relationship with city hall when in fact city hall needs the business folk more than ever hell instead of business folk giving money to candidates to maintain favor (hedging bets on most cases giving money to two or more candidates) when in fact whoever wins should be giving money to business folk to continue investing in the city
Also as I have traveled to different neighborhoods (budget mtgs in all areas of town) I have discovered not all neighbors are like the ones we have here in midtown ( it was a refreshing discovery to say the least) I have discovered that all neighborhoods have different needs and expectations of their public servants and all commercial corridors have their own issues etc. (midtown is awesome )
City politics are about people* …. People don’t get what they want without tax dollars.. tax dollars from property tax, users tax, sales taxes …….almost all, stemming from business owners …. Some of the neighbors understand this fact but only a few ..
(our public servants need to make this clearer to the average tax payer) thus increasing the willingness to partner with local business
People are terrified , they are afraid. We need to increase our police & fire presence across the city.. fire & pd salaries are already lower than all of our neighboring cities and they will be asking for a sale tax increase soon to increase public safety $’s.. (the city could have sliced more of the pie for them prior to these lean times and prevented this tax) is going to go down like a horse pill to taxpayers thus may not happen.
All development whether it be big or little is important railyards or gvhurley midtown or northgate we as citizens need to learn the value of developers that can be complete & fill or sell their projects.
*-I have truly enjoyed the discovery of the importance of the people aspect .. As I have driven around the city and attended the budget mtg.s I have become humbled to the idea that it is truly a great responsibility the city has and it must be taken seriously. The city’s ability to broker good deals for all its citizens is crucial yet needs to be transparent to maintain trust . A high calling but thus it is their job as a public servant.
Thank you to those that read down this far …
J
p.s. we are holding a “no business as usual” rally @ peter torzas new place idragoni on thurs march 27th from 5-8 this is open to all candidates and humans yes a media event to bring attention to the importance of human involvement in their local politics
