Hey there Midtowners, We'll serve up a proper welcome to the new web environment soon enough. Today, the Loft Gardener and The Grid Guru set off into the urban wilderness of concrete and many other materials with our trusty tourists in tow. We're pre-planning a series of urban walks throughout Sacramento on behalf of midtowngrid.com and ECOS (Environmental Council of Sacramento), starting next Saturday, March 8, with 9onF, the first LEED-certified residential homes in our fair burg, located at 15th Street and F Street on the cusp of Downtown and Midtown.

9onF is a community of 9 of the most eco-friendly homes in Sacramento, energy neutral, hence LEED-for-homes, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  a certified system by the U.S. Green Building Council.

We will lead these walking tours as a fundraiser for ECOS.  In fact 49mile, the developer, has agreed to donate .25% of any sales generated from that day to ECOS.   Several other eco-organizations and businesses will be on the premises that day, including Green Sacramento and Alchemists CDC.

After a long walk, it's good to take a breather at Rubicon Brewing Company next door to The Waterboy.   Rubicon has updated its menu in a serious way.   While one of us tackles the traditional fish 'n chips, another opens up with a new turkey sandwich on a cranberry walnut bread.  The Guru craves the pork tenderloin sandwich but the staff is running out the door to pick more apples so to speak, so we hone in on the new chicken pesto sandwich on a roll with lettuce and marinara sauce.  Very tasty.  The last member of our group endeavors into the Rubi-Q Burger with homemade barbecue sauce.   Everyone is satiated.

A glass of the cherry ale is not your typical beer experience.  We can see why this ale has garnered several brewing awards.  Served in a glass, this brew is 5 years in the making from Montmerri Cherries.   It takes a minute.  No gulps.  This ale is sipped like a fine wine or a sniff of brandy with similar layers and complexity.   The refined character almost sneaks up on you several minutes into the undertaking.

We complement the meal with a strong pint of more traditional stout full of chocolate and coffee.

On our tour we wind around many of the core mixed use endeavors which now we have the sustenance to report on; however, you will have to wait.

See You in the Second Half...

The Grid Guru
