Hey Folks,

We don’t generally go Off the Grid; however, we have something to celebrate as a community. It is hard for any new small business to negotiate the path of survival but today is a green day. Green Sacramento is the first eco-friendly home building and design supply store in the Central Valley. It’s their 2nd Anniversary and in the world of entrepreneurialism, the first 3 years are the hardest.

Come out to celebrate with Josh Daniels and the staff of Green Sacramento. There will be a wonderful sale on organic mattresses and the event will be catered by Dad’s Sandwich Shop, which will blow you away. If you’re expecting only sandwiches, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the caliber and creativity of Chef Zac England.

Green Sacramento really is a personal journey for Sacramento as a city to green itself. As our society has moved toward LEED standards of energy efficiency particularly in new homes and offices, the buildings breathe far less. Research into indoor air quality shows that it is quite often worse than the outdoor air standards that we all fear. The reason is that nearly everything we own bleeds off chemicals, from clothing to paint to furniture. Just using low or no emission paints can dramatically affect the breathing of a child, a chemically sensitive person, or an allergy-prone individual. Imagine natural flooring and sleeping on an organic mattress. We are only at the beginning of understanding the impact on our health and our environment.

Either way, today’s a great day to explore. You’ll find Green Sacramento off the corner of Alta Arden on Fulton Avenue.

As we approach ECOS’ Earth Day at Sac State on Sunday, April 22, next month, take this time to contemplate the small things that you can do that in aggregate would make a difference in Sacramento’s emerging walkable, ecofriendly, sustainable lifestyle.

See you on and off The Grid!
