Member Print Sale & Jewelry Thursday Night
If you still have gifts to buy, consider coming to Asylum Gallery tomorrow night and give the gift of art and/or jewelry! We’ll be open tomorrow night from 5:30 to 7:30 with Ann Tracy presiding over our mini-reception to toast the holidays. I’ve put all of my prints at the gallery on sale as has member artists Cherie Hacker and Marguerite Schaffron. And you can even get a sneak peak at teh new work I’ll be showing in January. I’ve got small format artist’s proofs in the bin. I’m especially pleased with this new series of works that deal with transformation.

If you’ve been by the gallery recently, you know that we have a new jewelry artist showing (and selling) her work - called CynStones. To the right is one of the many pairs of earrings we have at the gallery.
Cynthia Burdick has always had an affinity for rocks and minerals, she even studied geology in college and still has rock and fossil collections in her home. Her love of the individual beauty that each stone has – natural as it was created in the earth - lead her to bring out that beauty in her designs using other natural objects like freshwater pearls and metals. Incorporating lampwork handmade glass beads, infused glass and crystals has been another creative touch she brings to her work. Each design is unique, no two necklaces or bracelets or earrings are ever alike. There is a joy and satisfaction bringing an idea into design and then into reality.
It was about 18 months ago when Cynthia started making jewelry for herself while recovering from knee surgery – it was something she could do while sitting still. After other people saw her beautiful pieces, they also wanted jewelry, so she began her second career as an artist, in just a different medium. Cynthia has been a stage actress for many years, winning local awards and gaining critical recognition. She says that it feels good to make a thing of beauty for someone, almost better than applause after a show! |
