  1. 33rd Street Bistro

The product here is consistent and has managed to keep me coming back...for years. I have developed favorites that have been like crack at times. For starters, either the baked chevre or crab and artichoke dip are divine. After that I usually move to the Oregon blue cheese salad with buffalo chicken. Then, I polish the evening off with the cobbler du jour or pot de creme. Num, num. Plus, the restaurant boasts a unique selection of wines from the Northwest. If you are a French onion soup purist (and subsequent fanatic), as I am, steer clear-there's something fishy in those waters.
  2. Local Farmers Markets

Fresh Air, Fresh Food, Fresh Faces

What better excuse to get out and get some fresh air than getting out and getting some fresh produce?! It's a beautiful sight - those rows and rows and boxes and bins of veggies, fruits, nuts, flowers and such! I haven't been to all of them but I'd recommend any of them. Sundays under the freeway are the biggest market, I believe (bring a sweater if the weather hasn't yet reached Sacramento summer style). The Wednesday market at Cesar Chavez is fun and happening!

These markets are like outings in and of themselves to be cherished and absorded if time and temperament permit. You can support local farms and farmers and get one-on-one contact with growers while doing the urban-cavorting-with-nature dance at the same time. Seems a win-win!
